Mueller Smith & Okuley, LLC, (MSO) is the successor to Mueller Smith, a legal professional association originally founded in 1980. MSO practices in diverse areas of intellectual property law and related business law. Our practice has concentrated on the acquisition and protection of intellectual property rights, including application for and prosecution of patents and protection of trademarks, along related aspects of intellectual property management, including infringement counseling, copyrights, licensing, domain name disputes, new business start-ups and due diligence support during acquisitions and funding events. For many years we have been involved in protecting our clients intellectual property assess through litigation and litigation support.

Members of the firm enjoy mutually complementary technical backgrounds, and the firm has extensive experience in such fields as complex chemistry, medical devices, oil/gas production, software, optical systems, electronics, electromotive systems, farm machinery, sporting goods, all terrain vehicles, and biotechnology and the medical and biomedical arena including nutraceutical preparations. This broad experience allows us to provide excellent service clients for prosecuting diverse patent matters. Most members of the firm are registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office as registered attorneys.

Arising in part from our representation of a significant number of small to medium size businesses, the services we provide have taken on a broader aspect from pure patent, trademark, and copyright matters. For example, we represent many businesses in their incorporation, office/manufacturing leasing efforts, financing (bank, venture capital, limited partnerships), employment agreements, trademark programs, and trade secret control programs. We provide many of these same services to our major corporate clients, and have in the past taken over the functions of a former in-house patent department.

While the our offices are located in the Mueller-Smith building at the northern beltway of Columbus, Ohio, USA, and with the region representing an important developing high technology area in Central Ohio, Mueller Smith has established a reputation for very high quality and high value performance, the firm's client base has expanded nationally with clients in many states ranging from Massachusetts to Florida to Texas to California.
